Main routes clear - but police urge motorists to take extra care
Main roads in and around Kent were running well this morning as workers returned to work after parts of the county found themselves under up to six inches of snow.
However, commuters on services into London on the rails were facing some delays this morning, although Southeastern now report services are running well.
There was, however, a line fault at London Bridge this morning which caused problems getting in and out of the London station.
The Met Office has issued a yellow ice warning to road users warning them to take extra care when driving, with a number of smaller roads still reamaining treacherous.
However, in many areas a thaw has begun although forecasters warn temperatures will remain only as high as two degrees for much of the week.
In Medway, council gritters continued through the night last night salting the main roads.
All primary and secondary routes were treated and many third tier ones as well.
The only third tier ones not salted were too narrow – due to parked cars – for gritters to get down.
Contractors also worked through the night treating car parks and today the council will salt the remaining third tier roads that they did not reach last night – in addition to the other roads being treated again - and six teams are also out refilling the salt bins.
