Chairman happy with how pre-season is shaping up.
Sheppey chairman Neil Golding admitted first team places were up for grabs this season with new players joining the club .
He said a number of players had emerged through the youth sides to swell the numbers in the first team this season, meaning regular starters will have to look over their shoulders.
But while the numbers are good he said there is still room for more as the club looks to put out three sides.
Golding said: “A lot of under 17s have come through and boosted numbers.
“What we need is competition for places and the quality coming through is good.
“We got off to a good start last year but faded away, we just hope to make another good start and try to sustain it a bit longer. The players coming in will give us a boost.
“Pre-season has been going on for three weeks, and they have all come back which is good.
“There has been a few additional faces coming down as well. They have all been working hard on their fitness, so they are going to be in a good condition for the first game.”
The club starts its pre-season programme in two weeks with the first game against Sevenoaks, and further fixtures against Medway and Dartfordians arranged before the league starts in September.
