Allen appears on radio competition
New Gills manager Martin Allen was quizzed about how he likes his sausages sandwiches on Danny Baker’s 5 Live radio show on Saturday.
The 46-year-old who was appointed boss at Priestfield on Thursday took part in Baker’s Sausage Sandwich competition in a live phone in while the players were training.
He answered questions about whether he was ever picked from an audience at shows as a youngster, how he paid for his last meal in a restaurant and what sauce he likes on his sausage sandwich in the game which sees two callers try and guess the right answers.
He said: “It’s lovely to be working, I’m watching the players as we speak running around the training ground.”
When asked if he ever got picked to volunteer at events he said: “It never happened, believe that or not it never happened.
“When I heard the question I was trying to rack my brains to think, I can’t remember.
“As I have got older, wherever I go I seem whether there’s a magician or something or other it’s always me that gets picked out.”
And when asked about how he settled the bill the last time he ate out, he said: “I took all the staff out a Gillingham last night, 9.30 yesterday evening we paid in cash and left the tip in cash.”
And in the final question which gave the game its name he revealed what sauce he has on his sausage sandwich, he said: “I do have sauce on my sausage sandwich.
“I would cut it in half, half would be red sauce and half would be brown sauce, as this game says red or brown, red.
“Sunday morning, cup of coffee Sunday papers, split it down the middle, bit of brown, bit of red, perfect, that’s my favourite.”
